Warming up with love

Warming up for Valentine’s Day in the coldest winter ever ….. thinking about Love ….

Thinking about families and how we are held together by threads of love that weave forever around us.

We share the love that is now – here in this present moment, the memories of love in the past and the hope of love in the future – all if it binding us together forever….

Winter blues

Could this be you?

Sadly, I think it could be me….

snow makes you grumpy

created with canvasgrunge texture by Kim Klassen

Blinded by the winter blues ….

It’s so easy to give up and to give in to those sad old Winter Blues.

You know….how it is ….  that feeling of being completely overwhelmed, feeling lost in the endless needs of others. A great sadness can grow…. that self pity sort of sadness that cries out: where did my life go in all of this?

It’s so easy to simply sink deep down inside oneself. It can feel like an inner winter, too much dark, too little light. The world turns so cold and warmth is a past life dream.

Is it all about winter? Do these long dark nights drag us down into the depths of the psyche for some sort of essential inner cleansing? Well, if so, it certainly doesn’t feel that way. It feels more like extremes of weather and circumstance are all plotting to bring us to our knees just to see if we can get up again.

But no one wants to hear all that, do they?

Our own personal battles with the temptations of self pity, blame and resentment are of little interest to anyone but ourselves. It’s best to remember that.

And then to remember that the only real solutions are found in the heart. Once we remember to look there for our answers we will find compassion and a gentle acceptance, both for ourselves and for those who seem to ask too much from us.

So yes …. it is winter that draws us into the darkness of Hades where we take an annual trip down into the inner territory we would rather avoid.

It is the emptiness that we all feel when the breath of Life has been gone for so long and we miss Her so terribly – we miss Her smells and Her sounds and Her very rich green-ness.

The promise of Her return is all we have when we are stuck in February, frozen in time and stuck indoors.

So what’s to be done?

Of course, there is always Choice.

Remain here in a puddle of muddy thoughts, caught in the familiar land of Poor Me and Ain’t it Awful? Or choose to shift gears, refocus on my heart, get the ol’ body in motion and look for something that will make me smile….

The Big Smile

One more little reminder….

Smile as often and as big as you can!

Or one day, you may see this face in the mirror and by then it will be too late to change….

I’d love to hear how you survive the winter blues and how you manage to smile …..

Be safe, be warm

It’s storming again, the blizzard rages around the house. It’s dark and I can’t see the snow, but I can hear it beating on the windows and I can feel the cold seeping through the doors.

We’re safe inside, cuddled by the fire. It’s warm and bright, the smells of supper still linger. Soon we’ll sleep in soft cozy beds….

lovely deer

Textures by Kim Klassen warm grunge & not too shabby

So many are not so lucky, all the beautiful creatures that stay with us through our long and bitter winter. Are they cold? Hungry? Are they sheltered from the wind, buried in the snow deep in the bush?

If only I could feed them all, give them warmth and shelter from that freezing icy wind.

But I’m in here and they’re out there, and that’s just the way it has to be. It seems unfair and so unkind but maybe that’s not the way it seems to them…. I hope…

It’s a difficult year for the deer with so much snow and such terribly cold temperatures. Let’s all send them our hope for warmer days and an early spring …..

Farewell little blue mug

It’s funny how attached we get to things ….. it might be silly, but we do.

my little blue mug

Created with Kim Klassen texture Aurora

One day, many years ago, my daughter and I bought two blue hand painted mugs at a small 10,000 Villages shop. We spent such a lovely day together, just wandering, shopping, talking…. I think the mugs were the only things we bought… she left the next day on one of her travels, somewhere in South America, I think ….

While she was away, the little blue mug kept me company. And as soon as she came back home, we shared a cup of something hot in our little blue mugs.

The years have rolled by, as they always do, life seems to pass while we’re sipping a cup of coffee or waiting for the tea to brew. We learn to treasure the small things that connect us with the past…. that keep our memories fresh and close….

Like my little blue mug, warm in my hand every day for so many years. The good days and the not so good days, they all begin the same way – a steamy brew, a splash of cream and a pretty little hand painted blue mug.

Well…. those days are done. Accidents happen, even to mugs, and an unexpected tumble out of a cupboard means too many chips to fix and I’ll have to find another morning mug. It won’t be the same, it can’t be the same…. no other mug has the memories ….

I’ll miss you, my little blue mug, I was very attached to you…. 🙂
