Could this be you?
Sadly, I think it could be me….

Blinded by the winter blues ….
It’s so easy to give up and to give in to those sad old Winter Blues.
You know….how it is …. that feeling of being completely overwhelmed, feeling lost in the endless needs of others. A great sadness can grow…. that self pity sort of sadness that cries out: where did my life go in all of this?
It’s so easy to simply sink deep down inside oneself. It can feel like an inner winter, too much dark, too little light. The world turns so cold and warmth is a past life dream.
Is it all about winter? Do these long dark nights drag us down into the depths of the psyche for some sort of essential inner cleansing? Well, if so, it certainly doesn’t feel that way. It feels more like extremes of weather and circumstance are all plotting to bring us to our knees just to see if we can get up again.
But no one wants to hear all that, do they?
Our own personal battles with the temptations of self pity, blame and resentment are of little interest to anyone but ourselves. It’s best to remember that.
And then to remember that the only real solutions are found in the heart. Once we remember to look there for our answers we will find compassion and a gentle acceptance, both for ourselves and for those who seem to ask too much from us.
So yes …. it is winter that draws us into the darkness of Hades where we take an annual trip down into the inner territory we would rather avoid.
It is the emptiness that we all feel when the breath of Life has been gone for so long and we miss Her so terribly – we miss Her smells and Her sounds and Her very rich green-ness.
The promise of Her return is all we have when we are stuck in February, frozen in time and stuck indoors.
So what’s to be done?
Of course, there is always Choice.
Remain here in a puddle of muddy thoughts, caught in the familiar land of Poor Me and Ain’t it Awful? Or choose to shift gears, refocus on my heart, get the ol’ body in motion and look for something that will make me smile….
The Big Smile
Are you smiling yet? I am… 🙂
One more little reminder….
Smile as often and as big as you can!
Or one day, you may see this face in the mirror and by then it will be too late to change….
I’d love to hear how you survive the winter blues and how you manage to smile …..
Thanks for dropping in…. xo Janet
